Privacy Policy
Last Updated: November 2026
InterState Oil Company (“InterState Oil,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is based in Sacramento, California, and serves customers in California and Nevada. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through this website and in our business with customers, vendors, and visitors, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have, including your rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (together, the “CCPA”).
For California residents, this policy is also our notice at collection: it describes the information we collect and why, at or before the time we collect it.
At a Glance
- We collect only the information we need to answer your questions, serve your account, and run our website.
- We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
- Our website does not use advertising cookies and does not follow you across other websites.
- You can ask to know, correct, or delete your personal information. See section 8.
1. Information We Collect
The information we collect depends on how you interact with us.
Information You Give Us
- Website contact forms: whether you are a new or existing customer, what your message is about, your name, email address, and message, and, if you choose, your phone number, company, service location or address, account number, and (on the propane form) where the propane is used.
- Email, phone calls, and letters: the information you give us when you contact us. We do not record phone calls.
- Account forms: our website offers account forms and certificates to download, such as the credit application, propane account forms, payment authorizations, and tax-exemption or resale certificates. The website does not collect these forms: you fill them out and return them to us directly. We use the information they ask for, such as business and owner details, billing and delivery information, tax-exemption or resale details, and bank account or payment card details for payments, to open and manage your account.
Information Collected Automatically
- Website visits: when you visit our website, our systems and our website hosting provider automatically receive standard information from your browser, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the page that sent you to us, links you follow to other websites, your browser language, your approximate location (country), and the date and time. We use it to deliver and protect the website and to produce visit statistics. The statistics we see are totals, such as how many times a page was viewed. They do not tell us who you are.
- Form messages: when you send one of our forms, we record your IP address and the date and time with your message, and our automated protections briefly check the send to stop spam and misuse.
Our website is meant for adults and businesses. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18.
2. How We Use Information
We use personal information only for legitimate business and operational purposes, including:
- Responding to inquiries and service requests
- Scheduling deliveries and services
- Opening and managing accounts, reviewing credit applications, billing, and processing payments
- Sending account, delivery, and operational communications
- Improving our services and our website, using visit totals
- Protecting our website, forms, and customers from spam, fraud, and misuse
- Complying with legal, regulatory, tax, and safety obligations
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising based on your activity on other websites.
3. How We Share Information
We share personal information only as described here:
- Service providers that work for us under contract and may use the information only to provide their services to us, such as website hosting and visit statistics, email delivery, payment processing and banking, and our accounting, technology, and legal advisers.
- Legal reasons: when the law requires it, for example to tax authorities for exemption and resale certificates, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of our customers, employees, and the public.
- Business changes: as part of a merger, sale, or transfer of all or part of our business, subject to this policy.
- With your direction: when you ask us to share information, for example with someone you authorize to manage your account.
We do not share personal information with other companies for their own direct marketing purposes.
4. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser. Our website uses only a small number of cookies and similar technologies, for these purposes:
- Essential: to run the website, keep it secure, and keep our authorized staff signed in while they manage it. Visitors never need to sign in.
- Visit statistics: to help our website hosting provider count visits, so that we can see totals.
We do not use advertising cookies, advertising pixels, session recording, or technologies that follow you across other websites. Apart from the visit statistics our hosting provider produces for us, we do not allow other companies to collect information about your activities on our website over time or across other websites.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Our website works without them.
Do Not Track: some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no common standard for it, and our website does not respond to it. We do not track visitors across other websites, and we honor the Global Privacy Control signal (see section 8).
5. Links to Other Websites
Our website links to websites run by other companies, such as online bill payment, the fuel-card networks and their account sites, job applications, map directions, and supplier safety data sheets. When you follow one of these links, you leave InterState Oil’s website. The other company collects and uses information under its own privacy policy, and we do not control it. For example, job applications are made on an outside job-application website, not on ours. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those websites.
6. How We Protect Information
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards suited to the information we hold, such as restricted access, secure (encrypted) connections for our website and its forms, and monitoring for misuse.
No system is completely secure, so please do not send payment card numbers, bank account details, or passwords through our website forms or by email. If you believe your information with us is no longer secure, please contact us right away (see section 11).
7. How Long We Keep Information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, or as long as the law requires:
- Website form messages (with the details recorded when they are sent): up to 12 months after we receive them, unless they become part of an account or service record.
- Spam and misuse checks: a few minutes.
- Website visit records: our hosting provider keeps detailed visit records only for a short time to produce statistics; we keep only totals.
- Email and phone messages: as long as needed to respond and to keep a record of our dealings with you.
- Customer accounts, credit, and payment information: while your account is open, and afterward as long as tax, accounting, and other laws require and as needed to resolve disputes or collect amounts owed.
- Privacy requests: a record of each request and our response, for 24 months, as California law requires.
When information is no longer needed, we delete it or make it anonymous.
8. Your California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have collected about you, where it came from, why we collected it, and whom we disclosed it to, and receive a copy of the specific pieces of information

- Correct inaccurate personal information
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (InterState Oil does not sell or share personal information)
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information (we use it only for purposes the law permits, such as processing payments you authorize, and never to infer characteristics about you)
- Not be discriminated or retaliated against for using these rights: we will not deny you service or charge you differently because you made a request

Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale and sharing of your personal information. Because we do not sell or share personal information, no further action is needed.

California “Shine the Light”
California law lets California customers ask a business about personal information it shared with other companies for their own direct marketing. We do not share personal information for that purpose.
9. Nevada Residents
Nevada law lets Nevada residents ask a website operator not to sell certain information collected about them. We do not sell this information. You may still send a request using the contact information in section 11.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We review this Privacy Policy at least once a year and update it when our practices change. Updates are posted on this page with a revised “Last Updated” date, and for important changes we will also let you know on our website.
