Match the product, maintenance schedule and inventory to the equipment you operate.

Fleets and shops often operate several kinds of equipment, each with different lubrication needs. A planned approach helps keep the correct lubricants available and routine maintenance in view.

The Right Product, Place & Time

Suitable lubrication helps moving parts work with less friction and wear. Product choice and service intervals should follow the equipment manufacturer’s requirements and the conditions in which the equipment operates.

Missed maintenance or unsuitable products can contribute to wear, downtime and repair costs. A lubrication plan brings the products, equipment and maintenance schedule together.

Start With What Is Already in Use

InterState’s original article described working with owners and managers to review equipment, existing lubricants and maintenance routines. That review can help identify overlooked needs and guide a strategy for a fleet or facility, large or small.

Include Inventory in the Plan

A maintenance strategy also needs a supply plan. Running low on an essential lubricant can disrupt scheduled work. Discuss product requirements, usage and replenishment with the team so those needs can be included in the planning conversation.
